The newly formed IPL Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) franchise has signed Australian pacer Andrew Tye for next season. He is a similar replacement for English speedster Mark Wood, who was dropped from IPL 2022 after suffering an elbow injury during the first test against the West Indies.
The Super Giants bought Wood for a hefty INR 7.50 crores at a mega auction in February.
“The results of the scan confirm that Wood has an injury to his right elbow. He will return to the United Kingdom next week to request an expert opinion to treat his injury,” the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) declared.
Meanwhile, Tye was part of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) team in IPL 2021, but had to pull out of the tournament for personal reasons.
The 35-year-old Purple Cap Award winner and took 24 wickets while representing the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 2018 edition of the IPL, he also took a 5 wicket haul on this IPL debut for Gujarat lions in IPL 2017.
LSG will launch its IPL 2022 campaign on March 28 by facing Gujarat Titans (GT) at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
